Jesus Name
What was Jesus name? Contrary to what some people may believe Jesus last name was not Christ. He was not born to Joseph and Mary Christ. The word "Christ" comes from the Greek word "Christos" which translates "anointed one". The Hebrew word for anointed one is "mashiach". This is the word that we get our word "Messiah" from. So Christ is Jesus title not His name. It means "Anointed One" or "Messiah". This is what Peter was referring to in his confession in Matthew 16:16 when he said "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Additionally, Jesus is given many other names and titles in the Holy Scriptures. Here are some examples: Immanuel - Matthew 1:23 (Translates God with us) Lamb of God - John 1:29 Alpha and Omega - Revelation 22:13 (Translates First and Last) King of the Jews - Matthew 27:37 (Sign placed on the cross at this crucifiction) Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace - Isaiah 9:6 (Messianic prophecies) The Bread of Life - John 6:35 The Redeemer - Isaiah 59:20 The Living Stone - 1 Peter 2:4-8
